Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a significant infiltration attempt along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, eliminating seven suspected terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The operation took place late on Thursday night, May 8, 2025, amid a period of exceptionally heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the BSF confirmed the successful operation: "At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K." This swift action by the BSF underscores the heightened state of alertness and robust surveillance maintained by Indian forces along the border.
The foiled infiltration occurred on the same day that India's defence establishment reported neutralizing multiple attempts by the Pakistani military to target Indian military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other locations using missiles and drones. These aggressive actions by Pakistan were met with a strong Indian response, further escalating the already tense situation and raising fears of a wider military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
This period of intense border activity follows India's "Operation Sindoor," launched on May 7. These strikes targeted terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reportedly resulting in the deaths of approximately 100 terrorists. The Indian government stated that "Operation Sindoor" was a direct response to the barbaric Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where 26 individuals, predominantly tourists, were tragically killed by terrorists after their religious identities were ascertained.
The BSF's successful neutralization of the heavily armed infiltration group in Samba is a critical development, preventing what could have been a major terrorist attack on Indian soil. The terrorists, believed to be from the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit, were attempting to take advantage of the prevailing volatile situation to sneak into India.
